As part of the city’s Founder’s Day celebration, this event honors Lake David’s legacy—a lake that’s launched world champions, shattered records, and set the stage for waterskiing and wakeboarding legends since the 1970s. From the iconic Liz Allan’s All-Stars to elite training at Benzel Ski Center and Hansen’s World Wakeboard Center, Lake David’s waters have seen it all.
Now it’s your turn. Feel the rush of high-octane action with barefoot endurance challenges, gravity-defying wakeboarding, long-distance jumps, wakeskate, flyboard stunts, swivel ski, and more. Whether you’re here to celebrate the city’s storied past or catch your first glimpse of these thrilling sports, Legacy on the Lake promises an unforgettable showcase of Lake David’s legendary past.
Big Air, Bold Moves, and Barefoot Battles
Get ready for non-stop action on Lake David, where every splash tells a story of skill, speed, and spectacle. From endurance challenges and jaw-dropping jumps to freestyle feats and high-flying finales, these on-water events showcase the very best of Groveland’s water sports legacy—past, present, and future.
GREAT GROVELAND BAREFOOT LAPS CHALLENGE
A nod to the classic barefoot lap endurance contest, the Great Groveland Barefoot Laps Challenge is a test to see who can barefoot the longest around Lake David. The twist: after the second full lap, the boat will decrease speed by 2 mph and continue to decrease speed by 2 mph on every lap until the skier falls.
LAKE DAVID LAUNCH: FREESTYLE JUMP INVITE
The Lake David Launch: Freestyle Jump Invite is a high-flying, freestyle jump contest that pushes the limits of distance, style, and creativity off the ramp. With gravity-defying moves and explosive airtime, this showcase highlights the power and precision of freestyle waterski jumping. Expect big tricks, big air, and an unforgettable performance on Lake David!
LEGACY ON THE LAKE SKI SHOW
The Legacy on the Lake Ski Show brings high-energy waterski action to Lake David, celebrating Groveland’s deep-rooted watersports history. Featuring a mix of thrilling stunts, classic ski show acts, and high-flying performances, this mini showcase highlights the talent and tradition that have made the area a hub for water sports legends.
LAKE COUNTY JUNIOR FLIGHT JUMP INVITE
The Lake County Junior Flight Jump Invitational showcases the next generation of water sports talent with junior-level athletes competing in a long-distance jump competition. These young jumpers will push their limits, soaring across the water in a thrilling test of skill, speed, and distance.
THE GROVELAND WAKESKATE SCRIMMAGE
The Groveland Wakeskate Scrimmage is a high-stakes, one-round super final where wakeskaters get four attempts at the best three-trick line.
FLYBOARD FUSION: SKI EXTREME PRODUCTIONS FINALE
The grand finale of Founder’s Day features an unforgettable, high-energy LED flyboard show by Robby Allen of Ski Extreme Productions. An acclaimed showman and extreme water stunts athlete, Robby combines his passion for water sports and entertainment to deliver a visually stunning and electrifying display that’s sure to leave the crowd in awe.

LAKE DAVID PARK
The on-water action takes center stage at the north end of Lake David, with prime viewing spots along the shoreline and from the walking dock that stretches over the water. The main footprint for competitors and sponsors is near the Lake David Park boat ramp and parking lot, making it easy to catch every thrilling moment.
For convenient access, park along nearby side streets like E Magnolia Street, Waldo Street, and S Main Ave—just note that S Lake Avenue will be closed for the festivities.
